Five ways to get started

01

Take a training course

This is the most effective way to get started. A proper MSF-based course teaches you low-speed control, emergency braking, and how to handle a bike before traffic is involved. It also waives the BMV skills test for your Indiana endorsement.

02

Get a permit

Anyone with a driver's license can take a knowledge test at a BMV branch. When you pass it, you can ride on your own during daylight hours. It's a great way to build up experience with a friend who rides before you start your course. More info on the Indiana BMV site

03

Get your endorsement

If you pass your training course, you automatically get the endorsement. If you have some experience and want to skip the class, you can take a skills test through the BMV.

04

Gear up

You need to invest in good equipment, especially in your early days. This includes a helmet, jacket, gloves, and boots.

05

Have a riding friend

The top reason people stop riding after their course is that they don't have anyone to ride with. Having a friend or group to ride with is the best way to keep your skills up. See a list of events near us
